Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Doug O — 13 Sep 2010
â??The Wild Bunchâ?? is undoubtedly Sam Peckinpahâ??s greatest movie as a director, one of the greatest Westerns ever made and an American classic from 1969, my favorite movie year. While the movieâ??s influence is often over stated, it remains a very entertaining and violent action movie set during the 1913 period of the Mexican Revolution.
I believe critics of that period ignored, didnâ??t like or never saw the Westerns of Sergio Leone, movies that actually rewrote the book on Westerns starting five years before the release of â??The Wild Bunch.
â?? The movie is filled with some of the best actors and character actors of the period. William Holden, Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan are outstanding in the three leading roles. The DVD and BD release is first classâ?¦.
