Review of The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009) by Hank B — 20 Feb 2011
OK, this will show my love of reality TV (yes I'm addicted to reality TV... the first step is to realize you have a problem). It is like being a peeping Tom in other people's lives, one in which you don't belong.
Their lifestyle is so outlandish it is hard to imagine, but you know it occurs. They have basically found a way to survive in their environment by learning to get drugs and sell them while also using them and all the bad things that come about in that lifestyle.
I have had patients who I have caught abusing and diverting prescribed opioids/narcotics and it gives me a little insight into possibly some situations in which they may consider a normal part of their life.
It is also very sad to see how the children brought up thinking that this is a "normal" lifestyle are basically doomed to a life of misery. It was interesting and hard to keep my eyes off of it just as it can be hard to keep your eyes off of a 5 car wreck even though you know there is a lot of real misery coming out of the situation.
