The Wicker Man is unfortunately not quite the hilarious disaster it's made out to be, although it's definitely a very poorly made movie in almost every respect. If you have an internet connection then chances are you've seen at least one clip from the movie, but somehow the movie isn't actually in so bad it's good territory, just so bad it's bad.

In the movie, Nic Cage plays police officer Edward Malus who is lured to the mysterious town of Summersisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. The people of Summersisle have a very unique belief system though, and he soon begins to understand that the missing child may be the least of his worries.

The movie is a remake of the 1973 horror movie starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, which I didn't love all that much but it was entertaining enough. This take on the story is a complete mess though in every respect.

Bad acting, predictability, frustrating characters, and a bizarre script are among some of the biggest issues with the movie. The infamously funny moments are scattered about, but for the most part it just takes itself very seriously and doesn't end up being funny or creepy.

I'm a firm believer that Vampire's Kiss and Deadfall are the two definitive Nic Cage movies, so if you're looking for a great over-the-top Nic Cage role, you're probably better off with one of those.

The Wicker Man is more likely to put you to sleep than it is to make you laugh. To his credit though, Nic Cage sure knows how to spontaneously punch people in the face.
