Review of The Wicker Man (2006) by Simon T — 14 Aug 2017
Let's be honest, there are worse movies than this Nic Cage remake. People forget that the original is pretty clunky in the first place, and Neil LaBute's version is no sillier. What is undeniable though is that the 1972 original had a more plausibly malign undercurrent - the horror was insidious.
Here, LaBute chucks everything at us: bees, flashbacks, blind twins, Cage's suspiciously black hair and heavily pancaked face. And far too much of Angelo Badalamenti's insipid score.
