Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Scott T — 11 Apr 2009
A really good psychological horror movie (which I think are always the better ones without any need for reliance on gore and cheap shocks) with decent performances. Edward Woodward is good as the Christian policeman chasing a missing girl and Christopher Lee is the other stand out as the lord of the island (is he good are is he hiding something?) where the girl has disappeared.
The first hour is very odd with all the folk singing and strange goings on but is a very good detective story that reminded me a lot of the unease experienced whilst watching Rosemary's Baby. Both are quality horror films with suitably cracking endings.
Give it a watch but the strange paganism/nudity scenes won't be for everyone.
