Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Max W — 04 Aug 2009
The Wicker Man is an unusual, quirky film full of memorable, quirky characters. The island is given a surreal quality by the pagan ceremonies and beliefs practiced by the inhabitants. The conflict between sgt Howie's christian beliefs and the pagan beliefs of the islanders create a great tension all the way through the film.
The performances are generally very memorable, especially Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle. The local inhabitants are very authentic and the scenes in the pub are a particular highlight. This is a thoroughly entertaining and unique film.
