Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Scott W — 19 Nov 2009
I had no idea what I was in for when I turned this on...... The sexual revolution of the 70's is a strange and peculiar thing. Much like a 13-year-old with newfound knowledge shouting naughty things for sport, films from this era often revel in nudity with no thought for reality or sensuality.
Moments that simply shout, "Look! Boobies!!!" There's also a bit of general disdain for Christianity shown here. I am truly a heathen at heart, but films like this are just silly. This is a Pagan equivalent to "christian rap" or "speed metal for Jesus".
It's propoganda that claims to be enlightened because it's an "alternate life view". I will say that strictly as a movie - it's got a great ending. Lastly, I can't understand why on earth someone would choose to remake this movie.
(Neil Labute with Nicholas Cage in 2006) It's a little slice of cultural oddity that would be completely irrelavant now. I'm going to watch the newer one too just because I can't fathom what it will be like.
