Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Eric C — 28 Sep 2011
The Wicker Man is an example of classic horror, it's simmering, suspenseful and doesn't rely on cheap thrills or gore. It's all about atmosphere, and the almost Herzogian nature shots, as well as the corruption of simple, country living, can only be described as haunting. It sucks you in with a slowly unraveling mystery, of course the naked woman writhing against a wall and all of the orgies out on the front lawn don't hurt, and seals the deal with rather intelligent characters.
Although, on the subjects of characters and intelligence, if you *spoiler alert* end up getting burned alive because you're a virgin, and you just spent the last few days on an island that's pretty big on free love, and is inhabited by Diane Cilento, Britt Ekland and Ingrid Pitt, you dun goofed. Somewhere down the line sir, you have, in fact, dun goofed.
