Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Kelly B — 04 Apr 2009
The lasting genius of this film is in the way it regresses you to a childish state of being ignorant and therefore scared of the meaning of what is around you. Throughout most of the film you can only speculate as to just how 'evil' these people are, and just how sinister their oddity is.
This part of you juxtaposes with another part of you that is aware, as soon as Howie sets foot on the island, that he's not going home. The only question is how the tragedy will unravel and how creepy the unravelling will be.
Both are unforgettable.
