Review of The White Countess (2005) by Julia D — 17 May 2006
This is a truly beautiful film, the production is top notch - the costumes, sets and cinematography are fantastic, the period detail is excellent as well. But, I found the film itself very slow moving and surprisingly uninvolving, probably because Natasha Richardson is way out of her league in the role and I did not find her convincing at all.
The Chinese setting is a plus and director James Ivory does an amazing job capturing the feel and look of the times.
