Too much overt pretentiousness. Sean Penn feels way too heavy-handed and I can't buy his flirtatious scenes with Hurley. Sarah Polley delivers a great performance, but the two stories are way uneven.
Polley's storyline is better, but is ruined by the cutaways to the bland modern times story.
