Review of The Wedding Singer (1998) by James W — 20 Nov 2013
Wedding band singer Robbie Hart awaits to marry the girl of dreams, that is until he is left at the altar. Cue the sulking and depression, and Robbie's passion for wedding singing goes down in style, as big set pieces of laughter come in, the best scene sees him sing a song called "Love Sucks" and totally ruin a happy couples wedding.
An instant comedy classic and a family favourite too, The Wedding Singer is packed with a rocking soundtrack, some great singing pieces and an unmissable turn from Steve Buscemi doing drunken antics, he is unmissable.
Drew Barrymore plays a sweet girl extremely well, ditzy at times but always likeable. On an even better note this isn't a predictable rom com, mind you if you find it predictable the cast and the many gags will more than make up for that.
The great thing about Sandlers movie is that he isn't playing his usual rich guy with hot wife and huge home, he's a down on his luck singer living in a basement. For those doubting Sandlers movie choices and career of late, go back in time and check this top comedy and you'll realise he can do good movies.
