Review of The Weather Man (2005) by Tony's F — 01 May 2011
The Weather Man is a very strange and odd movie, but for some very strange and odd reason I really liked it.
David Spritz (Nicolas Cage) is a celebrity, but hes not your typical celebrity from movies or tv pogrammes. David Spritz is a Weather Man on a national news show, he works two hours every night and gets paid a pritty decent amount of money for doing it. He is treated like a celebrity on the street but it annoys him when people ask what the weather will be like next week, he normally answers them but the truth is that he cant predict the future, and that is what pisses him off. Just recently he has been put on the short list to be the weather man a.k.a " Meteorologist " -(yeah hard to say ill stick to Weather man) on a news show called "Hello America", this is a much bigger news company so if he gets the job he will earn much more money and will become a bigger celebrity, but is this what he really wants?
The only thing that is getting in his way is practically his life. He's divorced from his Wife, and his two children dont have anything to do with him anymore, he tries and tries to communicate with them but they just dont seem to care about their Father, and they pritty much have nothing in common at all. To top this all off David's Father who is played by (Michael Caine) has just recently been told that he is dying, so David starts to spend time with his Father and the funny thing is that they dont even get along with each other aswell, they have nothing in common, This Is when I asked myself "is there something wrong with David, because he dosent seem to get along with anybody?".
David's Father pritty much takes his Son for a joke, and all I can say is watching these two guys talk to each other is funny and awkward to watch at the same time.
The Weather Man is a very dark film, with a bit of dark humour that comes with it. The expressions on David Sprit'z face in the movie is where I thought the movie was funny, You know exactly what hes thinking at the time and what hes going to do next. The movie really actually has nothing to do with him being a weather man, its actually to do with the world that he sees around him, the people he sees around him and the disgust he has for all of it. Throughout the film he tries to relate with his children, well espicially his young daughter and he even buys her clothes and takes her to a few places to try and have fun with her, it never seems to work tho and thats when the film actually becomes pritty touching and I could say sad.
I enjoyed this film for being different and werid. The Acting is very good from everyone especially Nic Cage who actually is one of my fav Actors. Gore Verbinski is the guy who Directed this film, ive never heard of the Director before but he did a good job at bringing a dark and beautiful atmosphere throughout the film the entire time. This is a film that might annoy alot of vieweres just because there alot of strange conversations going on alot of the times, and maybe you wont care about anyone in the film due to it not really letting you get to know any of the people in it except Cage's character. Anyways, come on theres nothing wrong with watching a strange film now and than is there?, or am I just a strange Person.
