Review of The Weather Man (2005) by Joe M — 12 May 2012
A dark comedy/drama about just having to dealing with all that crap that is life. This film does a great job at setting the mood, of a person who is kind of a loser and a character with very few likable qualities.
However, you are in the characters corner, because he tries to make things work throughout the film. There is the general feeling of pity, and remorse for the character, that is still somewhat there at the end of the film.
The setting and scenery were all great taking place in Chicago, and showing most days as cold, snowy, and generally overcast really help set the tone that this movie was trying to convey. Nick Cage was Nick Cage and his acting at times, was probably better than most of his films, but again he is still Nick Cage.
Michael Caine did a great job, as well as the supporting cast. The story is at sometimes dull, and I think the trailer for this film is a little misleading, yet its engaging enough to keep you watching.
Overall see this film if you want, but if you don't its really no loss. This is also probably the first film by Gore Verbinski that I did not hate.
