Review of The Weather Man (2005) by Quinn C — 12 May 2011
Underrated movie about the banality of life in US suburbia. You would think that Dave Spritz would be a happy, stable person, because of the fact that he has a great job and is financially secure, and resides in one of the more exclusive areas in the entire country (Lake Forest/Evanston).
..But no...He feels unappreciated and like he is a failure. His family is a mess, and his wife has left him for an arrogant male nurse named Russ. His daughter (Shelly) is obese, already smoking (at age 12), and miserable.
Dave's father, Robert Spritzel, is famous due to winning the National Book Award when he was 28. Nicholas Cage is one of the best actors I think (this and Adaptation come to mind right away). I can't think of any movies he has been in that are bad.
Another movie showing that money does not equal happiness. There are some things that money can't buy...VERY funny movie.
