Review of The Way We Were (1973) by John M — 11 Jul 2012
The theme song is a classic. That is true! But, the movie itself is an odd conflagration of romance and political genres. They never work well together, nor do they work well separately. Streisand overdoes her performance at every turn.
Redford seems perplexed at what he's doing in the movie. Director Pollack can't undo the problems the script has given him. The film is only considered notable because of the theme music. When you see it, you know there is no other discernible reason.
