Sam Rockwell is the only actor is this movie who truly captivates, and while Liam James plays the protagonist with convincing gloom the rest of this talented cast feel like misplaced pieces on the chess board.
The Way Way Back consistently loses focus just before it can crystallize, but the core human emotions at its center save it from disaster. Watchable but not memorable.
