Review of The Way of the Gun (2000) by Paul P — 15 Apr 2009
If Michael Mann, Jean-Pierre Melville and Sam Peckinpah made a test tube baby, it would be The Way of the Gun. McQuarrie directorial debut has moments so brilliant and unbelievably perfect I wanted to applaud.
But sadly it feels like he tried to throw in everything and the kitchen sink along with the washers and a can of WD-40. A good editor and simplifying the script could've made this a masterpiece. The action scenes might be the most realistic and flat out best i've seen.
But there are too many of them, it feels like overkill. The same sentiment can be said for the story, characters, plot twists and back stories.
