Review of The Way Back (2010) by Justin S — 26 Jan 2012
Why I didn't really like this: We watch these people go through some hardships but overall, the movie does not make it look very difficult to get from Siberia to India. Sure, some people don't make it (not a spoiler, the opening tells you this) and everybody looks pretty rough in the end, but it covers such a long period of time so rapidly and there are so many pleasant parts in between that there are only really a few parts where I thought "wow, that looks tough". But even when it looked tough it didn't look that tough. It's even tough to describe how the movie made such a tough journey look anything but tough! Enough.
Oh, and there is this really strange feet walking over a timeline video clip thing going on at the end which didn't work for me at all. It seemed like someone just figured out how to use iMovie and was super excited to make this montage.
But still, I enjoy my movies about survival, so in the end I was satisfied.
