Review of The Way (2010) by Nick R — 18 May 2011
A road movie which owes more to Chaucer than Kerouac. Like a good Greek tragedy, the event from which the drama stems is unseen, and we are left watching the ripples it leaves behind. The format of the journey gives a clear narrative structure and allows characters to drop in and out of the film.
Martin Sheen shows what a good actor he can be, except when called upon to play drunk, which he tends to overplay. Good support from James Nesbitt and Deborah Kara Unger. This film is slow burning but will make you think, and maybe even feel.
