Review of The Way (2010) by Rivkah S — 15 Jan 2012
Pleasantly watchable but altogether too worthy for my tastes. Estevez and Sheen naturally make a solid actor-director team, presenting a hopeful story against a stunning backdrop of the Franco-Spanish Pyrenees, but the journey is inconsistent, jumping from montage to melodramatic scenario and back again in a heartbeat.
The characters form a motley bunch, and predictably all have their crosses to bear, but at the same time feel very much like movie characters with specific agendas and not real people who we believe are actually walking this fascinating pilgrimage.
The Way is by no means a bad film, but in its skirting of heavier issues, and predictable outcomes, it's not a particularly great film either.
