Review of The Waterboy (1998) by Jared B — 28 Jul 2015
Short Review:
Positives: Some good laughs. Above average acting and great cameos. Catchy quotes. A surprising capture of how football is played and feels actually like a real game at times. A plot that works half of the time.
Negatives: Poor script. A lot of jokes felt dry and flat. Didn't buy the forced love interest in this film. Felt bored through the end of the film. Very predictable all the way through. The plot the other half of the times feels generic to the point that you treat it like "whatever" mediocre film. Production feels weak and uninspired to shoot a film in an above average setting and an overall look. The movie drags on and on with forced jokes.
Overall: "The Waterboy" maybe labeled as Adam Sandler better movie but still that doesn't make it a great film. It makes it as a tolerable comedy that could have been better. By a long shot by a premise like this it would make a better movie if the movie makers put a little more effort into the script.
Grade: C-.
