Review of The Water Diviner (2014) by Josh O — 04 Jan 2015
Russell Crowe's directorial début is not a breakthrough in anyway but it is a delightfully small and understated film with a loving touch. The cast is solid, that story small and not that significant but it was a lovely experience especially considering the not so lovely setting.
There's a good balance between Australian and Turkish perspectives and it is handled with a lot of respect. There's no pretensions at all with this film, it's not trying to be big and important, it's just presents its story with care and love and I appreciate that.
