Review of The Water Diviner (2014) by Tom T — 17 Dec 2016
Mediocre, lukewarm film with nothing special except a number of historical inaccuracies. During World War One Turkey allied with Germany while Australia along with Greece were part of the Allies. Crowe presents the Turks as good and their allies the Greeks as bad.
It is like an American makes a film about WW2 which glorifies the Nazzis and presents their allies the English as bad!!! Very weird screenplay idea, especially since at the opening the film states that it is based on true events.
If you want to claim that a film is based on true events then it must be at least historically believable or convincing, to a certain point historically correct. This film turns history upside down. I did not like this film, it has no depth, the 3 lost sons are presented very little, the viewer does not get to know them so he /she does not care about them.
This film has nothing special, it did not move me at all and if Russell Crowe was not starring in it, I believe it would a completely unknown film and a failure.
