Review of The Water Diviner (2014) by Kyle B — 28 Apr 2015

This was an interesting one in terms of how I enjoyed it not the movie itself per say. Russell Crowe hasn't been an actor I'm over the moon about and this didn't change much but as a director I thought this was an impressive debut taking on both tasks of director and leading man.

The movie itself kind of is jumbled story wise with several things happening at once but once it gets to the point it starts to become a wonderful journey ending off with a powerful climax. The thing to point out the most in this film is the breathtaking cinematography done by the now recently deceased Andrew Lesnie who deserves a posthumous Oscar nomination.

The landscapes in this film are captured with beauty and the scenes set at sundown or sunrise are works of art. There is also this scene in a big sand storm that is just marvelous. It also has a beautiful score and art direction.

If you truly want to see the wonders of the beautiful cinematography, go see it on the big screen. I recommend you see this one especially if you don't know much about this history but it's worth a rental if you can't find it near you.
