Review of The Watcher (2000) by Polly P — 28 May 2010
Bland protagonist, bland antagonist (and one with bad hair to boot)... the saving grace (if a 2 star movie can be considered "saved" is the interesting females involved. The first target is especially textured... more than just a pretty face on a photograph. The manhunt for her is one of the most intense parts of the movie.
The filming was horrific. Two stylistic decisions really made the director look like an amateur. First is the obnoxious blurred hand-cam used during the opening credits... and about once every 10-15 minutes after that. It just doesn't look good and screams incompetence. Secondly, occasionally the video goes from regular color to negative black and white. In the proper context it could have been a neat effect, but here there is no discernible reason to use it. Pointless and... thus... amateur.
Oh yeah, for a movie cover that features wire, there is very little actual use of said wire. And for a movie called "The Watcher" there is very little watching. Though the last movie I watched was Disturbia, which is saturated in peeping at people through binoculars.
