Review of The Watch (2012) by Ryan N — 20 Jan 2013
I was truly hoping that "The Watch" would turn out the same way as "Hot Rod" did (for me, at least). "Hot Rod" received pretty mixed to negative reviews, but it turned out to be one of my favorite comedies; I guess it's safe to say in my top five comedies. I was kinda expecting the same to happen with "The Watch", being the same director and getting the same type of reviews (mixed to negative, but leaning more in the negative region); not to mention the comedic talent lined up. This was not the case, at all.
"The Watch" had about two or three decent laughs in it's entire hour and forty-two minutes of movie existence. Yeah, not very impressive. It's a shame that director Akiva Schaffer's second feature film effort (if that's what you want to call it) was nowhere near as funny, or even amusing, as "Hot Rod". I don't know why I find "Hot Rod" so hilarious, maybe because Andy Samberg is awesome and so damn entertaining to watch in the role. I just wish that I could say any of the same for "The Watch".
