Review of The Wasp Woman (1959) by Carina J — 31 May 2009
Roger Corman's The Wasp Woman is nothing more than a simple story displayed on film. There are few things within it that catch the eye, and many things that we might wish to reject. The sound was horrible, a mixture of bee sounds and jazz music overtop the action sequences, and strange bubble-esque music covering over much of the dialogue.
The dialogue was forced, and nothing overly exciting, as simple tell-it-how-it-is kind of dialogue that tells the audience exactly what they're supposed to know. Suspense builds out of annoyance with the characters and their obvious lack of communication between each other.
If only the cover art was an accurate depiction of what the wasp woman actually looks like, this may have been a decent film.
