Review of The Warriors (1979) by Sandro B — 08 Jan 2010
30 years on from its theatrical release, it seems hard to imagine the furore it created then. At the time, police had to be stationed outside cinemas because people were knifing one another, apparently instigated by the violent theme of the movie.
This eventually led it to being withdrawn in spite of the unexpectedly good run it was having at the box office. Today, it all seems rather lame but the images of a New York in decay still strike a strong visual chord.
