Review of The Warriors (1979) by Tristan M — 12 Sep 2014
Great old classic thriller about street gangs. It uses some mostly unknown actors, but for their age do a great job portraying the teen gang desperately trying to return to the safety of their turf when they are framed for the killing of a major gang leader.
It is a great story, taking place in 1970s New York, which is a lot different than the city is today. The fights are cool, the characters are all different and well developed, and the fact that the whole of New York is closing in on them gives a very hopeless feeling.
The other gangs come for them, the police are trying yo rond them up, even some girl gangs are in on turning them in. Eventually the 9 man gang gets seperated and they try to find each other and safely in pairs.
Some fights happen, but in the end the real gang who committed the crime is discovered and the major gang, the Riffs praise the Warriors for their escaping the other gangs and take out their revenge on the real murderers.
It was a great movie, a great story that was simple and easy to follow. Great old classic.
