Review of The Ward (2010) by Teddy B — 12 Aug 2011
The year he came back - one of my favorite directors of the 80s horrormeister Mr. John Carpenter is back on track after several misfires. Being Mr. Carpenterâ(TM)s 20th feature this reveals that the director of Halloween and The Thing hasnâ(TM)t quite lost his touch, it was a pleasure to watch this small-scale, intricately constructed genre movie - a satisfying and effective asylum-set suspense-horror.
Itâ(TM)s a solid, old-fashioned, spook-scare story with a lot of added value, from an outstanding titles sequence to an impressive, Carpenterian atmospheric score, a twisted ending and his trademark - widescreen prowling camera floating creepily through dark passageways and effective jump-out-of-your-seat shocks.
The Ward just about rewards.
