Review of The Ward (2010) by James W — 28 Mar 2014
The Ward isn't absolutely terrifying, and it drags on as the girls attempt to escape even after many failings, but there are enough jumpy shocks, and a sustained atmosphere that keeps the film afloat.
The twist end is unpredictable and a welcome shock, and the female cast do a brilliant job of keeping the pace flowing. There are a few damp scenes where nothing really happens, and the appearance of the supernatural killer comes around once too often taking away the eeriness of the killer, but some awesome and gloriously bloody kills keep The Ward very enjoyable horror, it's a decent comeback for Carpenter.
