Review of The War Zone (1999) by Aaron G — 12 Mar 2008
Bleak as Bleak...
Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs) makes his directorial debut with this family-under-crisis film. Recruiting Alexander Stuart to re-envisage his novel for the independent screen, Roth provides a rural, familial examination that's so confronting (for the majority) that it's quite simply unbearable. The most risque production by a qualified actor-turned-director since Gary Oldman's Nil by Mouth. Essential for fans of "Bleak Cinema".
