Review of The War on Democracy (2007) by Iven S — 15 Oct 2007
"The war on democracy" ... may not be the best doco ever made but it does have hard facts to illustrate that the USA is anti-democracy. Unfortunately John Pilger is no Michael Moore and the doco does come out dry, and sometimes I think the different camera "effects" and some of the sound makes it come off cheap or like a bad episode of " A Current Affair or 60 minutes".
I felt it was unnecessary to stylize the torture rooms or the recounting of horrific witness accounts of junta police killing innocent people. Mind you the tempo felt right and you do find hope at the end of this dark tunnel.
Also John Pilger proves himself a good interviewer and he does get interest information from many different sources. It was nice to see in the light the foreign policy that the USA has played for many years on its Southern Neighbours and the stories of the peasants struggle gives you hope that Ernesto "CHE" Guevara's dream will never die.
