Review of The War of the Worlds (1953) by Nick G — 31 Aug 2009
Some snobs might misconstrue that this loose adaptation of H.G. Wells' novel as a Cold War paranoia film, but its colour photography and simplistic plot suggest otherwise, offering little intellectual fodder.
The story is messily patched together and the acting is mostly laughable. The film's sole merits are its inventive sound design and visual effects (chintzy by todayâ??s standards, but cutting-edge in 1953).
