Review of The War of the Worlds (1953) by James M — 18 Mar 2010
A true sic fi classic from the cold war era, HG wells novel is a classic in its on right with this first movie adaptaion it up date the novel setting from victorian england to 1950s usa. athough this outdated setting might not intrest most people it works well for a movie its age.
its just cool to see early nuclear aged machienery fail missribly against the might of the martin armada. the one thing that makes this adatapion even more special is the alien ships them selfs. insteded of the walking tripods desribed in the novel and showen in later movie adaptaion (ie the 2005 remake) in this film the apear to be stingray shaped with three small green spots under neath ( wicth is a hommage to the tripods themselfs).
althogh the effects by to days stanards are out dated they still look awsome ie the death ray sequances. on a personal note I preffer this version over the speliburg remake. 8/10.
