Review of The Walk (2015) by Steven B — 09 Oct 2015
I wasn't going to go to this because even the promos gave me the heebie jeepies, but it was next up so I girded my loins (is that sexual? it sounds sexual) and went. All the other Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone had better sense and went to Pan or something.
Anyway the first part of the movie is kind of lame, but in a good way. Very well done with flashbacks and some black and white images. It moves nicely and has romance and comedy. Then we get to Th Walk.
This guy illegally strung a tight wire between the towers of the World Trade Center in 1974 and then walked back and forth for almost 2 hours. Even though we know he made it, it is still a stomach tightening thing to watch.
I didn't go to the 3D showing because I figured my fear of heights might force me to leave, even the standard showing was difficult. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is terrific and the supporting cast is interesting and provides good contrast.
This is a well done movie and I recommend it. SPOILER! I was afraid there would be reference to the 9/11 attack but the Director, Robert Zemeckis, showed good sense and did not do it.
