Review of The Walk (2015) by Dragonsfoe . — 02 May 2016
Following your dreams.
The Walk, though not as great as Zemeckis' classics is still a very good and heartfelt film. It comes off as charming, visually appealing, and surprisingly emotional and tension filled.
There is much to like in The Walk. Joseph Gordon-Levitt proves once again that he is a great actor, pulling off the French accent flawlessly blending it magnificently in his performance. Zemeckis' direction is also very good with a very good eye especially when it comes to the climax. The third act feels surreal and very real in addition to lots of tension. The Twin Towers themselves come off as characters in the film, which is a fun and heartfelt tribute to what they used to be. The Walk is a great feel good film, with a great lesson and a great ending.
The Walk is not perfect, with a supporting cast which lacks character development, a component that is very important in films involving a heist. One thing that is also not in this film's advantage is the fact that the movie has already been made in Man on Wire. This feels very similar and seems like an intentional rebelling of the story, just as a blockbuster film.
Overall, The Walk is a charming and feel good movie, though familiar is very much worth watching.
Rating: 7.9 (B+).
