Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Ann D — 21 Sep 2008
For a two and a half hour movie, it doesn't drag a bit. the imagery especially during the climax is provocative and disturbing. I couldn't help but notice the similarities in tone, imagery, and theme between this and there will be blood.
there is a lot of complexity to this movie- a critique of imperialism and corporate culture's subjugation of people and it explores how that stems from man's greed and desire for one-up-man-ship.
A powerful film that works on a micro and macro level. oh, and of course, the suspense is masterfully orchestrated. the characters are nearly all unlikable yet not one-dimensional. this is just a really goddamn good movie.
