Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Joe L — 24 Nov 2009
Four men, desperately in need of money, are exploited by a US oil company to transport 2 truckloads of highly unstable nitroglycerin across 300 miles of treacherous terrain. the best suspense thriller from the period i've seen outside of hitchcock.
white-knuckled, engrossing, and flat out exhausting by the finish. each obstacle on the journey is worse than the last, each seems insurmountable, and the solution to each problem comes at extreme risk.
transports the audience to the perpetual state of fear experienced by the characters. unforgettable.
