Review of The Wackness (2008) by Nicholas B — 29 Aug 2009
The Italian title of this movie is Do the wrong thing (fa' la cosa sbagliata), and the wrong thing is going to watch the film. I mean, there is some funny scene, e.g. when Ben Kingsley throws water over bystanders.
In theory the main character of the movie lived the same time as me. I mean he graduated from high school in 1994. But my life wasn t so interesting at the time. Ironically we also share the same name.
Well, this story is absolutely improbable. They criticize Rudolph Giuliani and the Police. But he goes here pushing a wrecked ice cream cart full of drugs... and nobody searches him. They quote Kurt Cobain, but there is no grunge music, just this hip hop, frankly I hate this kind of music, not all the hip hop, but this pathetic early nineties music is .
.. pathetic. The love story between this guy and the step daughter of his psychiatrist who is also a customer (they exchange analysis with weeds), yes the story is quite stereotyped, nothing to do with the poetry of Gus Van Sant s boys.
The girl is fine, I hope she s a good career. Ben Kingsley, the improbable shrink who needs a rehab is sometimes hilarious. But I repeat, the right thing is not going to watch this. If you are in Italy .
.. there is nothing interesting at cinema till October. Go for a ramble, it's healthier.
