Review of The Wackness (2008) by Brady S — 05 Jun 2011
First off. I really, really felt this movie! I seemed to know exactly what every character was going through in this film, which was new to me. Past feelings and current feelings. I give this movie 5 stars for accomplishing that, so much that it made me cry several times. It's an absolutely beautiful film! Beauty, love, unlove, drugs, alcohol, therapy, heartbreak, NYC, 1994, summertime, drugdealing, music!! I'm so honored to personally know actor Josh Peck. He is a remarkable actor and blew me away in the movie. Oscar winning, Ben Kingsley is a unlikely but perfect sidekick to Josh's character. Also great performances by the women, Olivia Thirlby, Famke Janssen and yes, Mary-Kate Olsen!
The score by David Torn touched my soul during the emotional times and then quickly taken back to joy by the great 90's Hip-Hop songs used in the soundtrack. Major kudos to writer and director Jonathan Levine. This is my kind of film!
