Review of The Wackness (2008) by Trystan C — 23 Jul 2012
"Juno" for the hip-hop crowd, "The Wackness" follows anti-social drug dealer Luke Shapiro through the muggy heat of 1994 New York as he befriends a shrink and courts the shrink's step daughter.
"The Wackness" is particularly effective in how it depicts a real post-high school grad and not an exaggerated, indie portrait of one. This is of course partly due to Josh Peck's fantastic acting.
And of course, I can't forget to mention Ben Kingsley, in what has to be my favourite role of his. This movie's the perfect mix of reality and escapism for a muggy summer afternoon.
