Review of The Wackness (2008) by Ryan R — 14 Sep 2010
During the entire movie I couldn't help but feel like I was watching a wanna be Spike Lee joint. (After a little research I found that Levine grew up on Spike Lee films) It had the New York culture embedded with plenty of slang, a nice mix of hip hop and several of the same camera techniques. But what it didn't have was the raw authenticity that a NY Spike Lee film embodies. Kingsley carried much of the load with an interesting portrayal of a man forced to redefine his entire existence; in what would most likely be an unwatchable film without his performance.
I rate this 58/100.
