Review of The Voices (2014) by Ryan P — 25 Jun 2015
One of the most twisted and simultaneously heart wrenching black comedies I've seen in a while. This movie is madness. The visual style is mundane, with subtle touches of colour that pop and really exemplify to see the world in a way like the rest of us...but not, at the same time. Ryan Reynolds plays Jerry, an almost child-like and goofy dude who descends into delusional psychopathy well, and even makes him sympathetic. Despite the fact that he's violent, ruthless and totally off the wall crazy. Everyone else is pretty good too (love me some Gemma Arterton) but Mr. Whiskers totally steals the show.
The movie is full of quirky and disturbing moments that end up being really effective.
