Review of The Voices (2014) by Mark T — 25 Jul 2015
A little shy of masterpiece status, but it's got a lot of guts (mainly the proverbial kind) and even a solid point. Might well be Reynolds' best work yet to boot. Despite obvious parallels, it reminded me more of "The Butcher Boy" in its approach, than "American Psycho".
I also found nothing wrong with the film's pacing, nor anything to the claim that this is a "woman-hating" movie. Yet another case of "social justice warriors" looking for triumph in all the wrong places.
What it is, is a largely-successful attempt to provide a different angle on all-too-familiar a story. You know, art's purpose.
