Review of The Voices (2014) by Chris B — 18 Nov 2015
The Voices is one of the most bizarre and unsettling movies that I have ever witnessed. Despite being predictable and often time meandering, I was enthralled throughout. The premise of Ryan Reynolds as a man who just wants to be loved, but who can't help himself when it comes to killing people, it is just too good to pass up.
There are some great performances from the rest of the cast, including Anna Kendrick and Jacki Weaver, but Reynolds really steals the show. The visuals are fantastic, shifting from the colour popping world of his mind, to the grim reality that others see, one could not want for anything more.
The script is really entertaining, but it does tend to go off the rails. This is a very dark comedy, and shouldn't be one to bring out any big laughs, but it is amusing throughout and has one of the most outlandish endings of recent memory.
I can recommend this one to anyone who enjoys an offbeat movie. Go in with that in mind and you might just enjoy yourself. It does get rather dark though. 4 out of 5 stars.
