Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Archibald T — 03 Jul 2009
Tough movie to review. Very tough because the Libson girls are very lazy rebels. Today's generation wouldn't stand to be kept inside their homes by overprotective parents. Instead they'd rebel and do what they want to do.
Kirsten Dunst character is the only one of the girls who does try to rebel. The boys who are obsessed with the girls are lazy too or they can't decide what they should do. It's very annoying because the girls don't have to kill themselves, but they do.
The appeal of a film like this is atmosphere which Sofia Coppola dwells on. It's haunting when the girls kill themselves and after it was over I kind of wondered why they had to do it. Very depressing movie.
