Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Michelle C — 06 Apr 2011
Pretty good depressing comedy, filled with mystery. First off, the best part of this film is James Woods, he was the perfect choice for an awkward dad, and I found him to be hilarious. My beefs: it felt sorta anti-emotional, and everyone says the film is spose to produce emotions and deep feelings.
..hmm, fail; and the mom's acting was pretty ghastly. I do know that Sophia Coppola is an instant favorite of mine, due to Lost In Translation...but that's beside the point. This definitely reminded me of a subdued, dulled down version of Dogtooth, simply because of the helicopter-parenting (btw, see Dogtooth, however fucked up it may seem).
Anyways, this was great, prolly an infinite number of ways to interpret it.
