Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Anthony K — 13 Jan 2012
I think this film was made purely to look good. I can't quite come to terms with the message it puts across. I didn't really see that this was a comedy at all. Was it about parenting?? I honestly don't know.
I just think that Coppola wanted to make something that looked pretty with a dark undertow, a bit like Almoldovar manages to do splendidly. This was a bit far off the mark and pointless; and I'm not sure I approve of pointless movies about kids committing suicide.
